ith the beginning of this year 2013, Century Celebration of the
esteemed educational institute of Pakistan Islamia College Peshawar also starts.
Pakhtoon Leader Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Khan and the then Chief Commissioner
of the Province Sir George Roose Keppel founded Islamia College Peshawar in
October 1913. It is situated on main GT Road towards west in Peshawar on the
distance of 5km from Cantonment area of Peshawar. Islamia College Peshawar is
known as mother institution of Peshawar University, University of Engineering
& Technology, Agricultural University, Jinnah College for Women, College of
Home Economics, Quaid-e-Azam College of Commerce and many other institutions
are established in its lap. This college is spread over 300 acres of land.
Quaid-e-Azama Muhammad Ali Jinnah donated his own property to three main
educational institutions and one of them is Islamia College Peshawar.
Quaid-e-Azam visited this college three time when he visited Peshawar in 1936,
1945 and 1948. Every time when he was in Peshawar he spared time for the
student of this college. The building of this college is also a master piece in
its self. State Bank of Pakistan printed its picture on the old currency note
of Rs.100 and now on Rs.1000 currency note. The main mosque of this college was
gifted by Wali Swat Miangul Abdulhaq Jehanzeb to Islamia College. This mosque
is also mentioned on the official seal (monogram) of the college.
