Periwinkle - Medicinal Plant

Periwinkle is a beautiful evergreen vine-plant commonly available in two colors Dark Green and Marble Green. It can be easily founded in the Swat, Abbottabad, Islamabad zones and Northern Areas of Pakistan, spotted creeping down steep hillsides and banks. It is also used as spreading shrub. Periwinkle is mostly grown as a ground cover. Suitable for hanging pots as its vine looks very beautiful in balconies, windows and on Roof Top Gardens and for landscaping. It is suitable for light and shade areas, needs full sunlight but not too much hot weather. Periwinkle blooms in April to May with beautiful flower of periwinkle-blue color. Periwinkle is the name of a color which is from the family of Blue & Purple. This plant named after this color because of its flowers. I planted two species of this plant one dark green and other marble green (white/yellow & green) in pots at my roof top garden. It is favorite of Peacock too, so be aware, if you have peacock at your home, garden or farm house, keep plants out of reach of them, otherwise you will find only pots not plants.
This plant has amazing medicinal qualities, not only to grow it in gardens and increase garden beauty but one can get many benefits from this plant too. Its medicinal qualities are defined by Medical Medium (facebook page), here am sharing their article as it is:
Periwinkle is a medicinal flower and herb that has been used for thousands of years due to its antibiotic, antibacterial, analgesic, and hypotensive properties. Periwinkle contains an alkaloid known as vincamine which is known to be highly beneficial for tinnitus (ringing in the ear), presbyacusis (hearing loss due to aging), vertigo, headaches, glaucoma, and strokes. Periwinkle also has vasodilating, blood thinning, and memory-enhancing abilities which makes it excellent for dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and short-term memory loss. It also contains potent anti-cancer compounds and is often used for leukemia, neuroblastoma, lymphomas, Hodgkin’s disease, Kaposi’s sarcoma, and Wilm’s tumor. Periwinkle has anti-inflammatory properties and is a great natural remedy for rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, psoriasis, and atherosclerosis. Periwinkle tea is wonderful for easing anxiety/nervousness, reducing heavy menstruation, improving memory, and for reducing blood pressure. To make the tea, simply add 2 teaspoons of fresh or dried herb to 2 cups of hot water and allow to steep for 15 minutes or more, sweeten with raw honey if desired. Topically, periwinkle can help disinfect and stop the bleeding in wounds. Simply crush fresh periwinkle leaves (or soak dried herb in a small amount of water for 30 minutes) and apply directly to the affected area and wrap with a clean bandage. It also is highly effective as a mouthwash for canker sores and bleeding gums. (source  Medical Medium )
